Conscience

phil:notion:conscience

Consciousness / conscience (la conscience) — the mind's presence to itself and to the world, and the moral conscience. Descartes made the thinking self (cogito) the first certainty; Locke tied personal identity to the continuity of consciousness; Kant to the unity of apperception; Husserl analysed it as always intentional; Sartre as a freedom-bearing nothingness.
