Happiness (le bonheur) — the complete and lasting good life, and whether it can be pursued or only received. Aristotle defined eudaimonia as activity of the soul in accord with virtue; Epicurus as ataraxia, freedom from pain and disturbance; the Stoics as living according to nature; Kant warned it cannot ground morality; Mill tied it to utility.
